About the Role
We are recruiting on behalf of a successful and growing business in Reading for an experienced Goods Inwards Supervisor to join their Operations team.
This is a key supervisory position responsible for managing all incoming goods, materials, components and consumables entering the business. The successful candidate will ensure deliveries are received accurately, inspected for quality and compliance, processed efficiently within company systems and stored correctly to maintain inventory accuracy and operational efficiency.
You will play an important role in supporting warehouse performance, supplier relationships, stock integrity and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Goods Inwards & Inventory Control
- Supervise the daily operation of the Goods Inwards department.
- Plan and prioritise workloads to meet operational requirements.
- Ensure all deliveries are checked against purchase orders, delivery notes and system records.
- Inspect incoming goods for damage, shortages and quality issues.
- Manage non-conforming goods and coordinate supplier returns where required.
- Ensure timely and accurate booking of stock onto company ERP systems.
- Maintain accurate stock records and inventory integrity.
- Coordinate stock movements to designated warehouse locations.
- Lead cycle counts and assist with stock takes.
- Develop and maintain goods receiving procedures and work instructions.
- Liaise with Purchasing, Customer Service and Warehouse teams to ensure smooth operations.
- Monitor supplier delivery performance and escalate recurring issues.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Leadership & Team Management
- Provide day-to-day leadership, guidance and support to Goods Inwards Operatives.
- Conduct training and competency assessments.
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding and performance reviews.
- Manage attendance, conduct and performance matters in line with company procedures.
- Foster a positive, safe and productive working environment.
Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and company policies.
- Promote safe working practices and correct use of equipment.
- Conduct workplace inspections and support risk assessments.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards throughout the goods receiving area.
- Support internal, customer and regulatory audits.
Candidate Requirements (Essential)
- Minimum 3 years' experience within a warehouse, logistics or goods receiving environment.
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of warehouse operations and inventory control.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Experience using ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365, SAP or similar.
- Competent user of Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
Desirable
- Forklift Truck Licence
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
- Experience driving process improvements within a warehouse environment.
