If you’re an HGV engineer who’s fed up with rinse-and-repeat servicing and wants something a bit more technical, this will be a step up. You’ll be working on specialist vehicles and equipment, not just standard fleet work. It’s still hands on, still mechanical and electrical, but with more variety and problem solving. You’ll be diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs, and getting vehicles back out working properly, not just ticking a job sheet and moving on. There’s also a mix of workshop and occasional site work, so you’re not stuck in the same four walls every day.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Carrying out maintenance and repairs on specialist HGV based equipment
  • Diagnosing faults across electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems
  • Completing more complex repairs, refurb work and modifications
  • Supporting warranty work and ensuring standards are met
  • Managing your workload through the service desk and keeping updates flowing
  • Completing job sheets, parts requests and documentation properly
  • Attending customer sites when required for breakdowns or repairs
  • Working with the wider team to hit deadlines and keep vehicles moving

What You’ll Need

  • Experience working on HGVs, commercial vehicles or similar
  • Strong fault finding skills across mechanical and electrical systems
  • Understanding of hydraulics would give you a big advantage
  • Relevant qualifications or time served experience
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of jobs
  • Good attitude, reliable, and someone who takes pride in their work

What You Might Not Like

  • It’s not just standard servicing, some jobs will be more complex
  • There’s some travel involved for site work
  • Paperwork matters here, it’s not optional
  • You’ll be expected to think, not just follow instructions
