Quest Employment is recruiting on behalf of a well-established public-sector organisation for experienced HGV / Vehicle Mechanics to join their busy vehicle maintenance operation in Croft, Leicester. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified mechanic with experience working on HGVs, 7.5-tonne vehicles, commercial vehicles or a range of council/public-service vehicles.
The Role
As a Vehicle Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining, servicing and repairing a varied fleet of vehicles, ensuring they remain safe, reliable and compliant with relevant standards. Your duties will include:
- Carrying out routine servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance.
- Diagnosing mechanical faults and carrying out repairs efficiently.
- Working on HGVs, 7.5-tonne vehicles and other commercial/council vehicles.
- Inspecting vehicles to identify defects and safety issues.
- Carrying out mechanical repairs and component replacements.
- Using diagnostic equipment and mechanical tools where required.
- Completing maintenance records and relevant vehicle documentation.
- Ensuring all work is completed to a high standard and in accordance with health and safety procedures.
- Supporting the wider workshop team to maintain fleet availability.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
Candidates must have a relevant recognised vehicle maintenance qualification, ideally at Level 3 or equivalent, such as:
- City & Guilds Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
- NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
- IMI Level 3 or equivalent automotive/HGV maintenance qualification
Previous experience as an HGV, LGV, commercial vehicle or fleet mechanic is essential. Experience working on 7.5-tonne vehicles, HGVs, commercial vehicles or public-sector/council fleets would be highly advantageous. A relevant HGV/LGV driving licence would be desirable but is not essential unless required for the specific duties of the role. Additional industry-recognised qualifications or accreditations, such as IRTEC, would be advantageous.
