?HR Manager

Warehousing & Logistics Wellingborough / Hybrid

Β£37,000

Β£45,000 per annum The Role

If youre an HR professional who genuinely understands warehousing and logistics, this could be a really strong move. And just to be clear from the outset - you must already have HR experience within warehousing and logistics. This is not a role for someone looking to move into an operational environment for the first time.

Youll be supporting a busy warehouse operation, working closely with managers, supervisors and shift leaders on everything from absence and performance through to disciplinaries, grievances, investigations, recruitment, onboarding and workforce planning. Youll need to understand the realities of a shift-based environment. That means changing priorities, agency labour, absence spikes, overtime, operational pressure, busy periods and the occasional situation that lands on your desk at exactly the wrong moment. Youll also need to be visible.

This is not a role where HR sits in an office and only appears when somebody is invited to a meeting. You need to be comfortable walking the warehouse floor, speaking to people, building trust and understanding what is really going on within the operation. Approachable, yes. But also confident enough to challenge managers when needed and make sure decisions are fair, consistent and commercially sensible.

What You'll Be Doing

Managing employee relations cases from start to finish.

Supporting disciplinaries, grievances, absence, performance and capability cases.

Leading and supporting investigations, hearings and appeals.

Advising warehouse managers, supervisors and shift leaders on people matters.

Giving practical HR advice that works within a fast-paced operational environment.

Challenging managers constructively where needed.

Being a visible HR presence within the warehouse.

Supporting absence management, return-to-work processes and long-term sickness cases.

Managing Occupational Health referrals and reasonable adjustments.

Monitoring attendance and absence trends and identifying recurring issues.

Supporting permanent, temporary and agency recruitment.

Assisting with interviews, inductions, onboarding and probation reviews.

Working with recruitment agencies around compliance, performance and cost.

Supporting labour planning around overtime, agency usage, peak periods and shift changes.

Making sure HR policies are applied consistently across teams and shifts.

Maintaining accurate employee records and supporting audits and compliance.

Supporting employee engagement initiatives and site communications.

Using people data to identify trends and make practical recommendations.

Supporting HR projects, policy updates and system improvements.

Getting involved in restructures, TUPE or wider change activity where required.

What Youll Need

Previous HR experience within warehousing and logistics is essential.

You must understand the realities of supporting a shift-based warehouse workforce.

Strong employee relations experience.

Confidence managing disciplinaries, grievances, absence, performance and capability cases independently.

Good knowledge of UK employment law and ACAS guidance.

Experience supporting warehouse managers, supervisors and operational leaders.

An understanding of agency labour, overtime, shift patterns and workforce planning.

The ability to give clear, practical advice rather than hide behind policy.

Confidence handling difficult conversations.

The ability to challenge managers without damaging the relationship.

Strong organisation skills and the ability to manage several cases at once.

Good written communication and attention to detail.

A calm, resilient approach.

Strong commercial awareness.

Confidence using people data to identify trends.

A willingness to spend time on the warehouse floor and understand the operation properly.

CIPD Level 3 or Level 5 would be advantageous.

TUPE or restructuring experience would be a bonus.

What You Might Not Like Id rather be upfront about this part. This is not a quiet, corporate HR role. Warehousing and logistics moves quickly. People call in sick. Agency numbers change. Shifts get stretched. Managers need answers. ER issues crop up. Priorities can change halfway through the day. You need to genuinely enjoy that environment. You also need to be comfortable dealing with people face-to-face and being visible within the operation.

If your HR background has been predominantly office-based, professional services, corporate or remote, this role is unlikely to be the right fit. Equally, if you want to work from home most of the week and rarely step onto the warehouse floor, this probably wont suit you. There may also be occasions where some flexibility is needed around shifts, including early starts or occasional evenings.

But if warehousing and logistics is where you feel most comfortable, you understand the pace, and you like being the HR person who actually gets what operations are dealing with, this could be a really good fit. What To Do Next

If youre currently working in HR within warehousing and logistics and this sounds like your kind of role, Id love to speak with you. The warehousing and logistics experience really is important here. Im looking for someone who already understands the environment, the pressures and the people challenges that come with it. Apply Now and we can have a proper conversation about the role, what theyre looking for and whether it feels like the right move for you. No hard sell. Just an honest conversation about whether the fit is right on both sides. THIS VACANCY IS BEING MANAGED BY BEA UKAYE IN OUR PETERBOROUGH OFFICE
