The Role

As a Tree Surgeon / General Forestry Operative, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the natural environment across the county. You will work hands-on across a variety of grounds and forestry projects, delivering works in full compliance with BS standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out essential ground works for tree felling, dismantling, and surgery.
  • Process felled trees, timber, and brash safely and efficiently.
  • Execute hedge trimming, hedge layering, strimming, and planting schemes.
  • Operate traffic control and site safety equipment on or near highways.
  • Maintain tools, chainsaws, and machinery to high operational standards.

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking candidates with strong practical experience, relevant NPTC tickets, and a sharp focus on health and safety.

Essential Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: Nationally recognised Certificate in Arboriculture or Horticulture.
  • NPTC Qualifications: Chainsaw Operation & Maintenance, Tree Felling, Tree Climbing & Aerial Rescue, Use of Chainsaw from a Rope & Harness, Pesticide Application: PA1 & PA6 Certificates.
  • Highways & Traffic Management: NRSWA Operative qualification and Chapter 8 Traffic Management knowledge.
  • Licence: Valid Driving Licence (ability to tow/manoeuvre trailers or holding an LGV/CPC licence is highly advantageous).

Safety-Critical Role: This post is designated as Safety Critical. Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment health assessment and will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Working Conditions: The position is depot-based, working outdoors in all weather conditions. Flexibility for out-of-hours, night, weekend, or emergency call-out duties may be required.
