Our client is looking for an experienced and driven Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day running of their hazardous waste operation. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on ensuring operational efficiency, maintaining high compliance standards, and driving continuous improvement across the business. The successful candidate will lead a team of approximately 10 employees and play a key role in ensuring operational targets, safety standards, and customer expectations are consistently achieved and improved upon.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operations of hazardous waste collection, processing, and disposal
- Ensure full compliance with environmental, health & safety, and regulatory requirements
- Manage and support operational staff, drivers, and site personnel
- Develop, implement, and maintain safe working procedures
- Monitor operational performance, productivity, and associated costs
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, implementing corrective actions where required
- Coordinate maintenance schedules for vehicles, plant equipment, and facilities
- Manage operational scheduling and customer service issues
- Liaise with regulators, contractors, customers, and internal technical sales teams
- Support audits, inspections, and compliance reporting activities
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and operational development
Requirements
- Previous experience within waste management, environmental services, logistics, or industrial operations
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Experience managing operational teams in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Competent using Microsoft Office and operational management systems
- Experience working with hazardous materials and regulatory compliance is highly desirable
Qualifications
- Industry-related qualifications such as WAMITAB and/or NEBOSH essential
Working Conditions
- Primarily site-based with occasional office duties
- Flexibility to support emergency response and occasional out-of-hours requirements when necessary
