We are currently recruiting for experienced Streetmasons / Streetmason Improvers to join a busy highways team working across Leicester.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in highway construction and maintenance who can work safely and effectively as part of a team, with opportunities to develop and progress their skills.
The Role
Please read the information in this job post thoroughly to understand exactly what is expected of potential candidates.
You will be responsible for carrying out a range of highway construction, maintenance and repair activities, including:

Laying paving materials such as slabs, kerbs, blocks, concrete paving and natural stone to the required standards.

Carrying out highway and drainage works, including roads, footpaths, drains and associated features.

Working with bituminous and concrete materials.
-
Undertaking general manual and labouring duties.

Operating powered tools, minor plant and machinery.

Carrying out Banksman duties, including supervising excavators and vehicles and following safe digging procedures.

Establishing and maintaining safe working areas around traffic and pedestrians.

Reading and following construction drawings, instructions and safe working procedures.

Completing relevant paperwork, work records and timesheets.

Liaising professionally with members of the public and other site personnel.

Supporting and mentoring less experienced colleagues where required.

Working outdoors in a variety of weather and site conditions.

Supporting wider highway, drainage, traffic management and emergency works when required.
Essential Requirements

Experience working within the construction industry.
-
Experience as a Streetmason or in a relevant highway construction role.

Experience undertaking Banksman duties and supervising excavators/vehicles.

Ability to lay paving products, including slabs, kerbs, blocks, concrete paving and natural stone.

Good understanding of construction health & safety and environmental requirements.

Ability to recognise hazards and take appropriate preventative action.

Ability to understand measurements and calculate quantities such as areas, volumes and weights.

Ability to follow instructions and interpret drawings.
-
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
-
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently where required.

Willingness to work outdoors in adverse weather and site conditions.

Willingness to work additional hours, weekends and participate in an out-of-hours standby rota, typically every 4β5 weeks for a one-week period.

Willingness to wear appropriate PPE and comply with health and safety procedures.
Qualifications
Candidates should hold, or be willing to obtain within six months of starting:

NRSWA / Streetworks accreditation

CSCS Health & Safety Certificate/Card
A full UK driving licence and relevant plant operator qualifications, such as excavator, dumper, roller or forklift tickets, would be advantageous.
Skilled Streetmason
For the Skilled Streetmason level, you will ideally have significant experience in highway construction and maintenance and be capable of planning and organising your own work with minimal supervision. You should be able to undertake more complex work to a high standard and support the development of less experienced team members.
Streetmason Improver
For the Streetmason Improver level, you should have relevant construction/highway experience and be able to undertake routine streetmasonry activities to an acceptable standard, working both independently and as part of a team under direction. xiskglj
