QuEra Computing UK Limited is looking for an experienced AMO Physicist for its UK Quantum Computing operations. The ideal candidate must have a strong background in experimental atomic, molecular, and optical physics. The individual in this role will contribute to the advancement of neutral‑atom based quantum computing technologies. They will be involved in the design, implementation, and characterization of neutral‑atom quantum computing systems, and collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of physicists, engineers, and computer scientists to push the boundaries of quantum computing using neutral‑atom platforms.
Responsibilities
- Assist in construction of next generation neutral atom quantum computer at Quera UK’s site on the Harwell Science and Innovation campus
- Collaborate with engineering teams to verify and validate modules and subsystems
- Run, calibrate, test and improve quantum circuits on the QPU
- Investigate sources of noise and decoherence and propose mitigation strategies
- Analyze experimental data and draw meaningful conclusions to guide system improvements
- Stay current with the latest advancements in AMO physics and quantum computing
- Engage in collaborations with academic and industry partners
Qualifications
- A Ph.D. or equivalent experience in Physics, Computer Science or Engineering, with four or more years of hands‑on experience in experimental atomic physics
- Success in research, as evidenced by peer‑reviewed publications and/or scientific talks and other contributions
- Proficient programming skills in languages such as Python, C++, or similar
- Experience in mentoring or training scientists or engineers
- Free to travel within Europe and the US where necessary
