Queenswood School are recruiting for a qualified Outdoor Activities Teacher to join our Education team now! We are looking for a versatile, resilient and committed person, who can adapt their practice wherever necessary to support across all key stages. You will deliver high-quality outdoor learning experiences that promote physical, social, and emotional development through adventurous activities and Forest School principles. The role combines structured outdoor education with child-led exploration, fostering resilience, teamwork, and environmental stewardship.
Queenswood School is set across two sites in a beautiful rural location in Herefordshire. We are an Independent Specialist day school specialising in the education and care of children and young people between the age of 11 to 19 years who are diagnosed as being on the autistic spectrum.
Outdoor Adventurous Activities (OAA)
- Plan and deliver safe, engaging sessions in activities such as climbing, orienteering, canoeing, archery, and team-building challenges.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety standards, risk assessments, and safeguarding policies.
- Adapt activities to suit different age groups, abilities, and learning objectives.
- Maintain and inspect equipment regularly to ensure safety and functionality.
- Promote confidence, problem-solving, and leadership skills through experiential learning.
- Facilitate Forest School sessions following recognised principles (child-led, holistic development, regular sessions in a natural setting).
- Encourage exploration, creativity, and environmental awareness through activities such as shelter building, fire lighting, tool use, and nature crafts.
- Observe and assess children's progress, supporting individual needs and fostering independence.
- Manage woodland areas responsibly, ensuring sustainability and biodiversity.
- Embed outdoor learning into the wider curriculum where possible.
Development of Outdoor Space and Resources
- Take responsibility for developing and enhancing the outdoor learning environment over time.
- Source, maintain, and manage equipment and materials required for both OAA and Forest School activities.
- Work within budgetary constraints and seek opportunities for grants or community support where appropriate.
Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status.
- Forest School Level 3 Practitioner qualification (or willingness to work towards).
- Relevant OAA qualifications (e.g. Mountain Leader, Paddle Sport Instructor, Archery GB).
- First Aid certification (including outdoor/forest environments).
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and risk management in outdoor settings.
- Ability to engage and inspire learners of all ages.
