The Centre for Biomedical Sciences Education (CBMSE) is part of the School for Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences and as such delivers anatomy teaching to a wide variety of students across the School. This is carried out through hands-on cadaveric dissection thanks to the altruistic donors who have agreed in life to allow their body to be used for anatomy teaching after their death through the Queen's University (QUB) Body Donation Programme. The CBMSE is currently ranked 3rd in the UK for Anatomy and Physiology (Times Good University Guide 2025) and the Centre for Medical Education is ranked 1st in the UK for Medicine teaching quality (Times Good University Guide 2024). Reporting to the CBMSE Technical Manager you will provide technical management of the Anatomy Teaching Laboratories and Mortuary Facilities ensuring the provision of anatomical specimens and prosections that will support academic staff teaching and student learning. This role will support and facilitate the Body Donation Programme and anatomy teaching delivery throughout the School. About the person: The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria: Academic and/or vocational qualifications i.e. HND/HNC and/or NVQ level 4 in relevant subject (orequivalent). At least 4 years relevant work experience to include: significant experience of working with human cadavericmaterial, including embalming, laboratory/mortuary working, cadaver storage, removal of human remains. Expertise in anatomy laboratory management, mortuary operations and anatomy laboratory practical teaching support. Comprehensive technical and laboratory knowledge and demonstrable experience in technical specialism. Demonstrable experience of training staff in the use of relevant equipment and techniques. Well-developed understanding of relevant regulations (including Human Tissue Act requirements as it appliesto acquisition, storage, use and removal of human anatomical specimens) and procedures including Health and Safety requirements. Supervision and resource management skills. Well-developed analytical and problem-solving capability. Well-developed communication skills and a demonstrable ability to be empathic and sensitive with donorrelatives. Ability to plan and allocate work and responsibilities using discretion to determine priorities and resolveconflicts. Ability to meet targets and deadlines. Significant manual handling is required therefore ability to lift and move laboratory equipment and specimensis essential. Willingness to be on-call (on rotation) outside of normal working hours and to work on occasion outside of normal working hours including weekends when required. Must be willing to attend internal and external courses related to continuing professional development, forexample, anatomy methodology training courses and workshops to learn and adapt to new techniques and technologies.
