To become an active member the Natural Drug Discovery Group at the School of Pharmacy, QUB, and engage in interdisciplinary studies on bioactive peptides using, biochemistry and cell biology approaches, with a focus on two main areas of interest: (i) Isolation and synthesis of novel venom-derived bioactive peptides and (2) testing their biological activity and stability using a range of bioassays and mass spectrometry. The Research Assistant will contribute to the mentorship of undergraduate and postgraduate students in the execution of experimental research, assist with managing day-to-day laboratory activities and research instrumentation, while placing an emphasis on personal learning, scientific integrity and team player skills. About The Person The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria: 1. Degree or equivalent qualification in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology or a closely related field. 2. Recent relevant research experience to include:- Experience of MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, solid phase peptide synthesis, antimicrobial study and vascular smooth muscle contraction assays.
