Queens Park Medical Centre is a busy GP practice based in Stockton-on-Tees. We are seeking a Medical Receptionist to join our friendly team. Full or part time considered.

We are looking for an individual who is a good communicator with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Knowledge of the workings of General Practice and SystmOne clinical system would be a distinct advantage.

Main duties of the job:
  • The primary responsibility is to provide a high quality service to our patients.
  • Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.
  • The ability to work under pressure whilst remaining calm is essential, whilst also using your own judgement, resourcefulness and common sense.
  • Facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the primary healthcare team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies.
  • Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice.

About us: We are a large, busy practice with 18,700 patients. We have 10 GPs, 4 Nurse Practitioners, a Practice Pharmacist, 5 Practice Nurses, 4 HCAs, a team of PCN employed staff, and a superb group of highly committed and enthusiastic administrative and reception staff. We are proud to offer a friendly and welcoming environment providing excellent healthcare to the residents of Stockton-on-Tees. The work is fast paced and challenging but is rewarding, and you will be part of a great team.

Job responsibilities:
  • Answer the telephone as a priority.
  • Book/cancel appointments.
  • Take messages accurately and pass on in a timely manner.
  • Deal with general enquiries and complaints.
  • Register new patients and temporary residents and make up paper records.
  • Greet and direct patients and visitors.
  • Organise translators.
  • Respond to the needs of GPs and Nurses to enable efficient clinics.
  • Input and extract information from the Practice computer system.
  • Update the clinical system with information e.g. smoking, ethnicity.
  • Action change of address notification.
  • Any other filing, record keeping and distribution of documents as appropriate.
  • Effectively liaise with Practice, Primary Care Organisations, patients and other external organisations to assist promptly with the resolution and administration of queries.
  • Fully utilise SystmOne and other IT systems.
  • Monitor and check tasks and work flows.
  • Communicate effectively with the reception team to ensure policies and procedures are kept up to date.
  • Keep directories and databases up to date to ensure an efficient work flow.
  • Demonstrate duties to new or less experienced staff.
  • Resolve job related issues, including patient documentation and help resolve minor problems.
  • Photocopying.
  • Attend meetings when required.
  • To work safely at all times in accordance with legislation and Practice policies and procedures.
  • Be flexible both in the availability and being able to cover for colleagues absent from work due to annual leave or sickness.
Person Specification:
  • Education to GCSE level or equivalent.
  • Experience of working with the public.
  • Working as part of a team.
  • Experience of working in an NHS setting.
  • Experience of working in General Practice.
  • Knowledge of SystmOne.
  • Knowledge of medical reception duties.
  • Sensitivity in dealing with patients' concerns and complaints.
  • Organised and able to prioritise workloads.
  • Flexibility, commitment and adaptability.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work for the benefit of the team.
  • Able to use own initiative.
