Role Overview

Our client is seeking a Middleware Engineer to support and maintain enterprise middleware platforms within a fast-paced IT operations environment. You’ll play a key role in ensuring system stability, performance, and availability, working closely with cross-functional teams across application, infrastructure, and database services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain middleware across production and non-production environments
  • Monitor performance, logs, and alerts (e.g., Splunk, Dynatrace)
  • Troubleshoot incidents, perform root cause analysis, and resolve within SLAs
  • Execute SQL queries for validation and troubleshooting
  • Work within Linux/Unix environments for deployments and system checks
  • Support API integrations (REST/SOAP)
  • Automate operational tasks using scripting (Shell, Python)
  • Assist with releases, deployments, and environment management
  • Collaborate with internal teams to resolve issues
  • Follow ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change)
  • Participate in an on-call support rota

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Linux/Unix experience
  • Knowledge of Java-based or middleware systems
  • Understanding of APIs and web services (REST/SOAP)
  • SQL query experience and database fundamentals
  • Exposure to middleware/tools (WebLogic, ESB, API gateways)
  • Monitoring tools experience (Splunk, Dynatrace)
  • Scripting skills (Shell, Python)
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills

Desirable

  • Telecom or large enterprise environment experience
  • Cloud knowledge (AWS/Azure)
  • CI/CD and DevOps tooling familiarity
  • Integration platforms (MuleSoft, Apigee)
  • Containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)
