Location: Coventry - Hybrid – 2 days per week onsite

Start Day: ASAP

Contract Rate: Β£460 per day inside IR35

Duration: 6 to 12 months initially

Role Overview

Our client is seeking a Technical Program Manager to lead a high-profile mainframe modernisation programme within a major retail supply chain and logistics environment. This role will drive the transformation of business-critical legacy platforms supporting warehouse, distribution, inventory, and fulfilment operations, ensuring minimal disruption during peak retail trading cycles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of a large-scale mainframe modernisation programme
  • Define programme roadmap, milestones, and delivery strategy
  • Work closely with senior business, supply chain, platform, and engineering teams
  • Partner with architects to shape modern, scalable target-state architectures
  • Drive migration, re-platforming, or decommissioning of legacy mainframe systems
  • Own transition of systems supporting replenishment, inventory, DC operations, and order fulfilment
  • Manage vendors, system integrators, and cross-functional delivery teams
  • Proactively manage risks, dependencies, and mitigations
  • Track KPIs and provide executive-level programme reporting
  • Ensure governance, quality, security, and compliance standards are met
  • Lead change management and continuous improvement initiatives

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Proven experience delivering mainframe modernisation or legacy transformation programmes
  • Strong retail supply chain and logistics domain knowledge
  • Hands-on or working knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
  • Understanding of omnichannel fulfilment models (store, DC, click & collect, ship-from-store)
  • Experience managing large, multi-vendor, distributed teams
  • Agile delivery experience with excellent stakeholder engagement skills

Desirable:

  • Large-scale transformation leadership experience
  • Cloud exposure (Azure and/or AWS)
  • Programme governance, budgeting, and risk management expertise
  • Warehouse operations experience
  • SAFe, PMP, or Agile certifications
