We are looking for a friendly, reliable and patient-focused Medical Receptionist to join our welcoming GP practice team.

Main duties of the job

  • Welcoming patients in person and on the telephone in a courteous and professional manner
  • Managing appointment requests, including triage systems,cancellationsand general enquiries
  • Registering new patients andmaintainingaccurate, up-to-date patient records
  • Handling sensitive and confidential information in line with GDPR and practice policies
  • Processing clinical requests in line with practice protocols
  • Supporting general reception and administrative duties
  • Maintaining a calm, friendly and professional approach during busy periods

Job responsibilities

This is a key front-of-house role where you will make a real difference to patients every day. You will often be the first point of contact, whether in person or over the phone, helping patients feel supported, listened to and respected while ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the practice.

As a Medical Receptionist, you will work closely with clinicians, managers and reception colleagues to ensure patients receive a safe, efficient and positive experience.

You will play an important role in managing patient flow, responding to queries, and supporting the wider clinical team with administrative tasks.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to remain calm, organised and professional under pressure
  • Ability to prioritise workload and manage competing demands
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality
  • Reliable, punctual and flexible team player
  • Access to a car and ability to travel to our Caton branch (approx. 6 miles from Lancaster)
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths Grade C/4 or above
  • Previous experience in a GP practice or healthcare setting
  • Experience using EMIS Web or similar clinical systems
  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Business Administration or Customer Service
