The role of Faculty Communications Manager sits within the central Communications team and serves as the primary communications lead for the Faculty of Science and Engineering. As one of three Faculty Communications Managers—each aligned with one of the University’s faculties—this role is responsible for developing and delivering strategic internal and external communications for the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Working closely with faculty leadership and academic and professional services staff, the post holder supports the University’s broader goals in increasing awareness and reputation, driving student recruitment, and enhancing engagement among staff and students.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver strategic internal and external communications for the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
  • Work closely with faculty leadership and academic and professional services staff to support wider university goals (awareness, reputation, student recruitment, engagement).
  • Partner with the Faculty Marketing Manager to provide a unified point of contact for central marketing and communications support.
  • Lead and manage the Faculty Communications Officer, with support from the wider Communications team.

Experience / Qualifications

  • Significant experience of developing and implementing successful communications activities and campaigns (including media relations).
  • Experience in communicating research and complex information in an accessible manner.
  • Proven experience coordinating integrated communications across traditional and digital platforms to meet marketing and communications goals.
  • Comfortable working alongside senior leadership teams and/or Boards/Committees.
  • Experience of working in higher education or a complex organisation.
  • Experience of matrix managing and directly line managing others.
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines.

Salary and working arrangements

  • Salary banding: £54,617 – £57,666, dependent on experience
  • Hybrid working (3 days per week in the office)
  • Office based in London (E1 4UJ)
