Applications are invited for the post of Departmental Fees Officer in the Income and Credit Control section of the Finance Department. The post will include all aspects of financial record keeping for undergraduate and taught post-graduate students, including distance learners and students based at our overseas campus. The postholder will be expected to have thorough and detailed knowledge of financial policies and procedures. The post will involve interaction with academic staff, students and external agencies such as the Student Loans Company, SAAS and NHS. The Finance Department is responsible for reporting on the university's overall financial performance and providing financial information to other business functions to underpin business planning and decision-making, while enabling efficient operations. The Income and Credit Control section sits within the Finance Department and is responsible for answering student enquiries, collecting university debt, raising invoices, and providing support to university academic departments.
Responsibilities
- Handle all aspects of financial record keeping for enrolled students (undergraduate, taught postgraduate, distance learners, and overseas campus).
- Engage with academic staff, students and external agencies on behalf of students (e.g., Student Loans Company, SAAS, NHS).
- Respond to student enquiries, manage debt collections, raise university invoices, and support university departments in financial processes.
- Work within established financial policies and procedures; collaborate with managers on complex cases.
Qualifications and Skills
- Educated to degree level.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a busy Fees team; well-organised and able to prioritise and work under pressure with accuracy.
- IT literate with experience of using complex databases in a financial context.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Capable of carrying out tasks within a clear policy and regulatory framework, with escalation to managers in complex cases.
- Experience of working with different currencies.
