Queen Mary Students’ Union (QMSU) is seeking a Retail Assistant for our retail operations. This is a full-time role (35 hours per week) with 30 days leave, additional college closure days, and a pension.
The Village Shop is our one-stop shop on Queen Mary University of London’s campus in Mile End, offering a great selection of leading brands for students, staff, and the public. We sell food to go, groceries, fresh fruit and veg, toiletries, QMUL merchandise, clothing, and more. In September, this shop will be reopened as a Coop franchise on campus.
We place a huge emphasis on outstanding customer service and satisfaction, continuously looking to improve and expand our offerings. Sustainability and ethical awareness are paramount to our operations, making them key features in all our commercial outlets.
This role will help us strive to improve our offerings to both the student and staff market, focusing on ensuring that the shop is fully stocked at all times and enhancing customer satisfaction. We are looking for someone with a ‘can-do’ attitude who is capable of growing with us along this exciting journey.
Applicants should have excellent interpersonal skills, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to the values of the organisation, which is a safe, friendly, and student-led democratic entity. Candidates must be able to act in an operational capacity on a day-to-day basis and have the ability to open and close the shops as required. A ‘hands-on’ team player is essential.
This role will involve a variety of shifts, including late evenings and some weekend work as needed. Applicants should possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work with a wide range of people. Candidates must be able to work well under pressure, prioritise a varied workload, and meet deadlines.
The post is permanent with a starting salary within the pro-rata salary range of £27,340-£27,930 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, additional college closure days (including bank holidays and extra days over Christmas), a defined benefits pension scheme, an interest-free season ticket loan, and membership of the Sport and Fitness Centre.
Candidates must demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006, which may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
