Hours: 40 hours – 5 days over 7 up to 40 hours per week, 5/7 days. Evening and Weekend shift pattern.

Job purpose

We are seeking a Pool Facilities Lead to work as part of a team within our Leisure department to ensure the smooth operation of the Leisure Facilities; Student Gym, Swimming Pool, Muggles Activity Centre, Atrium, and the Staff Gym.

Leading a team of Leisure Assistants to ensure protocols and policies are enforced and the overall supervision of the facilities is of a high standard.

This will be a lead role with responsibility for the Genesis Swimming Pool.

  • Overseeing the on duty operations within the Leisure & Commercial Department
  • Ensure duties are covered that fall under leisure department responsibilities.
  • Keep records of services and maintenance in relation to the Lead role within the Leisure & Commercial Department
  • Oversee operation of the Leisure Facilities, ensuring staff are following procedures set out by the Commercial Operations Manager
  • Fulfil duties of Lifeguard and/or Leisure Assistant as applicable and as required
  • Communicate with the wider estate about opening times, events, behaviour etc. to maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of the facilities.
  • Increase student engagement and wellbeing with regards to the use of the leisure facilities.

Maximising the use of the facilities to ensure student experience is high to ensure retention of students.

  • Assist with Approved Training Centre inspections
  • Assist with leadership of Lifeguard training as required
  • Ensure pool testing and treatment is regularly conducted in accordance with industry guidance
  • Follow HSG179 Managing Safety in Swimming Pools
  • Lead and/or assist in departmental training as required by Commercial Operations Manager
  • Create detailed programmes, spreadsheets, and other informational tools as resources for the department and wider estate.
  • Ensure adequate staffing at all times, covering illness or absence as required.
  • Ensure access control for the pool facilities is robust and enforced
  • Enforce facility rules to ensure safety in health and fitness

Any other duties commensurate with the role.

Skills and Experience

  • Good general level of education
  • Experience of working in a similar role
  • Experience of working with children
  • Some knowledge of Health & Safety Regulations as they relate to the role
  • The ability to make practical suggestions to create, improve and solve problems
  • A highly responsible, approachable and friendly attitude.
  • The ability to create a positive learning environment.
  • Qualifications related to the job role, e. g.

Gym Instructor, First aid, National Pool Lifeguard, National Pool Lifeguard Trainer Assessor, H&S, Safeguarding, National Pool Management
