Job overview

To provide appropriate anaesthetic , obstetric and critical care services as directed by the Anaesthetic Department.

To contribute to the 1st and 2nd on-call tier and provide anaesthetic services accordingly.

To assist with the service delivery by covering colleagues’ absences.

To carry out pre and post-operative assessments as required.

To maintain high quality patient care with minimal risk, enhanced patient satisfaction and informed consent, following GMC guidelines.

To help in the delivery of effective services within the agreed budget.

To contribute to meeting Departmental and Trust objectives.

Main duties of the job

To provide support for the effective development of the service .

To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning c linical g overnance and audit.

To further develop clinical protocols, guidelines, and concise care bundles.

To c arry out responsibilities with due regard to the Trust’s Equal Opportunities Policy.

To be aware of the responsibility of all employees to maintain a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors and staff and attend all relevant health and safety training.

To ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard.

To c arry out annual performance reviews with each member of their staff .

Person specification

Qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • FRCA Primary or equivalent experience
  • Current (less than 3 years since certification) provider of at least one of the following: ATLS, ALS, APLS

Entry Criteria

  • Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council.
  • At least eight years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least six of which will be in Anaesthetics
  • Minimum two years obstetric anaesthesia experience
  • Minimum two years ITU experience.

Professional Values & Behaviours, Skills and Knowledge

  • Can demonstrate successful leadership or management role.
  • Can demonstrate participation of regular clinical governance and quality improvement activity.
  • Evidence of supervision or training of doctors in training.
  • Meets the criteria set out in the Specialist generic capabilities framework
  • At least 3 years’ experience in the UK.
