About the role

Lead procurement for a defined category, ensuring the most cost‑effective distribution of non‑pay expenditure and timely delivery to all wards and departments. Act as the category lead for the designated area across the organisation and be recognised as the authority on that category.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all strategic procurement with a value of >£50k within the defined category, in accordance with Trust Standing Financial Instructions and Public Contracts Regulations.
  • Identify and achieve cost improvements, meeting or exceeding CIP targets.
  • Act as an ambassador for the Procurement Department, influencing Trust staff on product choice and handling queries and complaints professionally.
  • Provide sound professional and technical advice to managers and staff to achieve continuous improvement, including regular review of products, rationalisation of usage, and identification of quality or cost benefits.
  • Represent the Trust regionally and nationally in relation to the defined category.
  • Support the development and delivery of the annual Procurement work plan through various procurement techniques.
  • Conduct market, supplier and product research to inform best‑value purchases.
  • Take responsibility for the purchase of goods by delivering contracts and developing innovative methods for evaluating quotation returns to maximise commercial opportunities.
  • Support activity on contracting and tendering for goods and services, providing management information when required.
