Overview
A vacancy at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King\’s Lynn NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for a dedicated person to take responsibility for the efficient and effective organisation of the outpatient department. This includes managing the nursing team and the delivery of the service in a busy, purpose-built Children’s outpatient department, providing a service for West Norfolk and the surrounding area.
You will assist in the delivery of a family-centred, clinically effective, and dynamic service for babies, children and young people who use the service. You will be responsible for signposting and referring where appropriate. You will be supporting the MDT and external service providers, as there are outpatient clinics provided by visiting consultants from tertiary units, including orthopaedics, cardiology, surgery, renal and urology.
Responsibilities
- Organise and oversee the outpatient department to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
- Manage the nursing team and coordinate day-to-day operations in the Children’s outpatient department.
- Signpost and refer patients appropriately and support the MDT and external service providers.
- Support outpatient clinics provided by visiting consultants from tertiary units (e.g., orthopaedics, cardiology, surgery, renal and urology).
- Maintain accurate patient documentation in line with Nursing and Midwifery Council standards, confidentiality, and information requirements.
- Communicate effectively with children and young people (CYP), parent/carers, and the wider MDT to ensure continuity of care; provide advice and demonstration teaching to parents where appropriate.
- Demonstrate safeguarding awareness, assess risk, and refer to professional teams as appropriate.
- Contribute to the provision of evidence-based care for children and young people with a range of short-term and lifelong conditions, in partnership with families and the MDT including non-QEH providers.
Qualifications and requirements
- Registered Nurse with full NMC registration in the UK.
- Internationally trained nurses who have not passed the OSCE will not be considered for this role.
- Clinical skills such as venepuncture; competencies in accessing central lines would be beneficial.
- Ability to assess children and young people seeking assistance when required.
- Ability to attend in-person interviews if selected.
- Commitment to safeguarding and ability to assess risk and refer to appropriate professional teams.
