Key Responsibilities

  • To act as a role model for students, behaving appropriately, communicating effectively and being a calm and reassuring presence in College.
  • Be a flexible, proactive and supportive member of the Daytime Duty Supervisor Team working to support the social, emotional and behaviour needs of students in a range of contexts and situations including before college, break times, lunch time and at the end of the College day.
  • To work effectively to de-escalate students who are experiencing emotional and behavioural difficulties and to provide appropriate guidance to ensure a positive environment is maintained.
  • Work proactively to prevent incidents occurring while on duty and to act to accommodate student needs.
  • Have a non-judgemental approach to students’ emotional and behavioural difficulties, working to develop each student’s confidence, self-esteem, skills and knowledge of their rights and responsibilities.
  • To be a First Aider and respond to medical emergencies whilst on duty.
  • To remain up to date with student’s medical needs in order to be able to respond quickly to student issues as they arise.
  • To be aware of the risk profiles of students whose behaviour can cause harm to others in order to ensure adequate supervision.
  • To raise concerns as appropriate with the SAM – Learning Support.
  • Assist with student transport at the start and end of each day to ensure all learners are on transport and arrive/leave safely and correctly.
  • Record information effectively and objectively to support the monitoring and management of student incidents.
  • Develop positive rapport / relationships with students whilst maintaining clear professional boundaries and effective implementation of agreed Positive Support Plans.
  • Support other members of staff in preparing behaviour plans by supplying information about individual learners.
  • Participate in meetings regarding individual students on request.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills using appropriate communication methods.
