An opportunity has arisen for a proactive and values-driven IT Systems Engineer to design, secure, and maintain business-critical systems across multiple environments. The role supports two distinct operational areas:

  • A secure enterprise transcription service environment with dedicated infrastructure, requiring compliance with industry standards such as PCI DSS, ISO 27001, and Cyber Essentials.
  • A wider organisational environment, including an education setting.

While the primary focus will be on the enterprise environment, priorities may shift based on business needs, requiring collaboration with internal IT teams to provide technical expertise and support.

Salary: £41,885 - £51,717 per annum (depending on qualifications, knowledge, and experience)

Working Hours: 37 hours per week, year-round. Working hours scheduled between 7:00am and 7:00pm. Participation in out-of-hours emergency support (including evenings and weekends) as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain secure IT systems and infrastructure.
  • Manage and support:
  • Backup infrastructure
  • Network infrastructure, including segmentation
  • Server environments (Hyper-V, Windows, Linux)
  • Cloud services (e.g. identity and productivity platforms)
  • On-premises systems (Active Directory, SIEM, print, access control, CCTV)
  • Perform hardware lifecycle management, including installations, upgrades, patching, and security hardening.
  • Manage software licensing and ensure compliance.
  • Apply cyber security best practices across systems and services.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and implement patch management processes.
  • Contribute to maintaining compliance with recognised standards (e.g. PCI DSS, ISO 27001).
  • Produce clear technical documentation and operational guidance.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across operations, security, and audit functions.
  • Support high-availability systems and respond effectively to incidents.
  • Essential Criteria:

    • Relevant industry certifications (e.g. MSP, Security+, CCNA, Palo Alto or equivalent).
    • Minimum 5 years experience in systems engineering or infrastructure roles.
    • Strong hands-on experience across networks, servers, cloud, and on-premises environments.
    • Practical knowledge of cyber security principles, including:
    • SIEM
    • Identity and access management
    • Encryption protocols (TLS, certificates)
    • Endpoint protection
    • Vulnerability and patch management
  • Understanding of PCI DSS and ISO 27001 frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a security-first mindset.
  • Ability to translate technical standards into practical, automated solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience managing stakeholder relationships across multiple functions.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to take ownership and work in high-availability environments.
