I'm working with a software products company that's looking for an experienced Development Manager to lead a group of engineering teams and help improve the way software is delivered across the business. They're investing heavily in their engineering function, so it's a great opportunity for someone who enjoys improving delivery, developing people and helping teams scale.

This isn't a hands-on coding role. It's about leading Tech Leads, keeping delivery on track, removing blockers and making sure releases happen when they should. You'll work closely with Engineering and Product leadership, balancing priorities, managing dependencies and helping your teams perform at their best.

What you'll be doing:

  • Managing and mentoring a small group of Tech Leads
  • Owning delivery across multiple engineering teams
  • Coordinating releases and ensuring they're production-ready
  • Working with Product and Engineering leaders on planning and priorities
  • Managing cross-team dependencies and delivery risks
  • Helping develop engineering best practice and delivery standards
  • Supporting hiring and growing high-performing teams

What they're looking for:

  • Previous experience as an Engineering Manager or Development Manager
  • Experience leading multiple software engineering teams
  • Strong background in software delivery and release management
  • Comfortable coaching Tech Leads and senior engineers rather than managing day-to-day development
  • A solid technical background with the credibility to challenge and support engineering decisions
  • Experience working within SaaS or software product environments

What's on offer:

  • Salary up to £90,000
  • Fully remote working
  • 25 days holiday plus

How to prepare for a job interview at Qudos Recruitment Ltd

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Qudos Recruitment Ltd uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
