Role Overview
This role sits within a dedicated Safety Engineering skill group supporting MOD acquisition and in-service programmes. The Safety Engineer will provide expert advice and guidance on acquisition safety policy, through-life safety risk management, and assurance activities to support the delivery of safe and suitable equipment, systems and services to Front Line Commands.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the generation, review and endorsement of technical safety requirements, documentation and safety artefacts.
- Develop, manage and maintain Safety Management Systems, including hazard identification, analysis and risk reduction measures.
- Provide acquisition safety engineering advice and guidance to delivery teams and decision makers, including Project Safety Panels.
- Manage system safety verification, validation, test and evaluation activities across the lifecycle.
- Oversee safety-related contractual activity and management of contractors delivering safety tasks.
- Develop and maintain project safety assurance plans and safety case evidence.
- Lead safety assurance activities within your technical discipline, including disposal and decommissioning activities.
- Support the development and maintenance of DE&S acquisition safety policy, standards and processes.
Essential Skills and Experience
- STEM qualification at RQF Level 4 (or equivalent).
- Strong depth and breadth of experience delivering safety engineering or acquisition safety outcomes.
- Experience providing technical advice and leading delivery of safety engineering solutions.
- Professionally registered with a relevant institution as IEng or RSci.
Additional Information
The role operates within a matrix-managed organisation and interfaces with multiple engineering disciplines, delivery teams, regulators and external suppliers. Hybrid working is expected with regular attendance at Abbey Wood.
