Location: Hybrid – MOD Abbey Wood, Bristol (minimum 3 days per week)

Rate: Up to £550/day (Inside IR35)

Duration: 01/04/2026 – 30/06/2026 (extension possible)

Overview

This role sits within the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) supporting the SSN‑AUKUS submarine programme. The programme forms part of the trilateral AUKUS partnership between the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States to deliver the next generation nuclear‑powered attack submarine capability. The role will support collaboration between the UK and the Australian Submarine Agency (ASA) during the design phase of the SSN‑AUKUS programme. Working alongside Technical Liaison Officers and engineering leadership teams, the successful candidate will support technical governance, integration and engineering coordination between UK and Australian organisations involved in the programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support resolution of Australian Submarine Agency concerns, technical queries and formal Resources for Information
  • Support Australian participation within the SSN‑AUKUS design programme including meetings and technical reviews
  • Assist with comparison and assessment of UK and Australian organisations, processes and engineering approaches
  • Support development of AUKUS technical governance arrangements between UK, US and Australian partners
  • Provide support to UK‑based Technical Liaison Officers delivering the ASA programme
  • Advise Australian stakeholders on UK engineering processes and practices
  • Support trilateral AUKUS meetings and programme governance arrangements
  • Contribute to integration activities across international engineering teams during the submarine design phase

Essential Experience

  • Experience supporting nuclear submarine acquisition or submarine engineering programmes
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with international partners and stakeholders
  • Experience supporting engineering governance, programme coordination or technical integration activities
  • Ability to communicate complex engineering information within multinational programme environments

Additional Information

This is a trilateral UK / Australia / US programme and the role will involve engagement with international stakeholders. Due to time‑zone differences some meetings may occur outside standard UK working hours. Regular attendance at MOD Abbey Wood (minimum three days per week) is required.
