Overview: Our customer, a large defence organisation, is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to support the delivery of the engineering and technical aspects of in-service support for the AJAX fleet. The role will involve engagement with a wide range of stakeholders and organisations and will report to the In-Service Engineering Manager.
Team Context: The AJAX Programme sits within the National Armaments Director Group (NAD) and is delivered as part of the Land Combat Vehicles Portfolio. The AJAX team comprises several pillars, each representing a stage in the project lifecycle. This role sits within the In-Service Pillar, which is responsible for all engineering and support activity for the in-service AJAX fleet.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the In-Service Engineering Manager in coordinating engineering activities to help maintain operational readiness.
- Work with Project Managers, Engineers and Stakeholders across Contractor, Army and internal teams to help identify and track engineering issues.
- Help monitor in-service engineering issues and elevate concerns to the In-Service Engineering Manager to minimise operational impact.
- Provide technical data, progress updates and risk information to the Pillar Lead under guidance.
- Coordinate with logistics, maintenance and supply chain teams to help ensure engineering support requirements are met.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by gathering data and supporting quality and reliability efforts.
- Assist in ensuring adherence to engineering standards, safety regulations and project requirements.
- Maintain and update records of engineering issues, resolutions and decisions to support in-service engineering activities.
Essential Experience/Skills
- Hold a suitable Engineering qualification and level of training (at level 4 or greater).
- As a minimum be Professional Registered as an Engineering Technician (EngTech) or equivalent.
- Have experience of providing technical advice and delivery of successful engineering outputs.
Desired Experience/Skills
- Have experience of asset management and In-service military equipment.
- Experience of working on large complex engineering programmes.
- Experience of major large and diverse stakeholder groups.

- Weekly working pattern: 1 day per week on site at General Dynamics in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales; 3 days per week on site at MOD Abbey Wood, Bristol; 1 day per week working from home.
- SC Clearance required.
