An opportunity has arisen for a Nuclear Safety Engineer to support the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) within the Acquisition domain. The role will focus on the development of an integrated safety case and definition of safety management systems within a nuclear submarine environment. The position will support delivery of key safety artefacts, including the Preliminary Safety & Environmental Report (PSER), and will involve close collaboration with contractors, assurance authorities and key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support development and integration of the Preliminary Safety & Environmental Report (PSER) for Design Review 1
  • Manage contractor-delivered safety artefacts and ensure integration into the overall safety case
  • Support development of Safety Functional Requirements through participation in safety working groups
  • Manage safety documentation and records within central repositories
  • Coordinate stakeholder and Design Authority feedback into final PSER deliverables
  • Update Programme EUSTON Safety & Environmental Management Plan (SEMP) for DR1
  • Act as secretariat for bi-weekly Safety Working Groups
  • Act as secretariat for quarterly Programme Safety & Environmental Committee (PSEC)

Qualifications

  • Experience developing or supporting nuclear safety cases and safety management systems
  • Experience working within submarine or nuclear defence environments
  • Knowledge of PSER, SEMP and safety case documentation
  • Experience working with contractors and integrating safety artefacts
  • Experience supporting safety governance forums and stakeholder engagement
  • Ability to manage technical documentation and safety records
  • DV clearance required prior to start

Contract Details

This is a 3-month contract (potential for extension) based in Abbey Wood, with hybrid work and regular travel to Glasgow/Clyde twice per month.
