Role Overview

We are seeking a Lead Engineer to support the delivery of Urgent One Way Effector (OWE) capability requirements within the Lethality and Protect – One Way Effector team. Reporting to the OBI Lead and Chief Engineer, the role is responsible for the generation and execution of the engineering management plan (aviation aspects), supporting the rapid development, testing and assurance of novel OWE capabilities.

Key Tasks and Deliverables

  • Form technical requirements and manage test, verification, validation and evaluation activities
  • Develop System Requirements Documents (SRD) and Integrated Test, Evaluation and Acceptance Plans (ITEAP), proportionate to project scale
  • Establish engineering roadmaps and Engineering Management Plans for current and future phases
  • Assure technical data provided by suppliers and provide advice to senior technical and safety authorities
  • Integrate and manage project interests across a wide range of stakeholders, including airworthiness authorities and Heads of Establishments
  • Provide assurance that supplier testing is conducted safely and in accordance with aviation regulations and local processes
  • Identify and analyse technical hazards and contribute to safety artefacts required to enable testing

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Engineering Manager with experience managing development and integration of novel systems
  • Experience of complex weapons development and testing programmes
  • Familiarity with aviation regulations and experience working with regulators
  • Experience supporting Test, Trials and Experimentation programmes

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience developing innovative or novel delivery approaches
  • Experience of competitive equipment selection through demonstrations
  • Experience managing suppliers through initial and scaled or full-rate production

Additional Information

Hybrid working is expected, with regular attendance at Abbey Wood and travel to other UK locations as required. Overseas travel may be required depending on test range selection.
