We are offering an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Apprentice Power Network Craftsperson based in Ossett. This 36‑month apprenticeship is designed to develop the technical knowledge, practical skills and strong safety culture required to become a fully competent craftsperson working on high‑voltage (HV) electrical infrastructure up to 33kV. During the programme, you will gain hands‑on experience across a wide range of HV environments while working alongside experienced professionals. You will also complete recognised power engineering qualifications through structured training and block‑release study at UCT Manchester, supporting your development into a critical role within the UK’s electrical power network. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will play an important part in supporting the safe construction, maintenance and repair of electrical assets, helping to ensure a reliable and secure supply of electricity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain and repair HV switchgear and transformers up to and including 33kV
  • Carry out electrical substation wiring, including complex panel wiring
  • Assist Senior Authorised Persons with testing and commissioning of HV installations
  • Install and terminate multicore cables accurately and in compliance with specifications
  • Install cable management systems including trays and trunking

Qualifications

  • 3–5 GCSEs (A–C / Level 5 equivalent), including Mathematics, English and a Science
  • Ability to commit to a 36‑month apprenticeship starting September 2026
  • Strong interest in electrical engineering, power networks and hands‑on technical work
  • Willingness to learn and work across a variety of HV sites and environments
  • Good problem‑solving and analytical skills
