A Power Network Craftsperson is responsible for the safe construction, maintenance, and repair of the UK's electrical power network, ensuring a safe and reliable electricity supply across the country. This role involves working at various locations throughout the UK's power network. Given the industry's high safety-critical activities, candidates must adopt a disciplined and responsible approach to work. The work requires a good level of physical ability to access and exit work positions.
Key Responsibilities & Accountability
Upon completing your apprenticeship, your responsibilities and accountability will include:
- Working on overhead lines
- Working on underground cables
Successful candidates will gain the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to attend DNO training schools, aiming to obtain the relevant authorisations to work across various DNO networks.
Qualifications, Experience & Personal Attributes
Applicants should have achieved 3 to 5 GCSEs at grades A to C (or level 5), including mathematics, English, and a science subject. The successful candidate will undertake a 36-month apprenticeship with Quartzelec beginning in September 2025. Upon successful completion, a permanent position as an Authorised Cable Jointer will be offered.
The apprenticeship includes several block release study weeks at the Utility & Construction Training Centre (UCT) in Trafford Park, Manchester. Travel is a necessary component, and candidates should expect to work and study away from home at times.
Qualifications attained through this apprenticeship include:
- Technical Certificate C&G 2304-17 in Electrical Power Engineering Level 2
- SHEA Power (EUSR)
- BESC Basic Electrical Safety Competence (EUSkills)
Applicants must possess a full driving license and have access to their own transportation, given the location of the workplace and training centre.
