The Opportunity: We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to lead the commercial function at our Rugby site, covering both site services and manufacturing operations. This role has a strong focus on high-value contracts within Hydro, Navy, and major rotating machinery projects, ensuring robust commercial governance across the entire project lifecycle.
You will be responsible for end-to-end commercial management, including contract negotiation, risk management, claims strategy, and financial performance. Working closely with Business Managers, Project Management, and Sales teams, you will play a critical role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, commercially effectively, and with risk appropriately managed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support and advise on commercial strategy for major contracts, particularly Hydro and large new-build projects
- Interpret, negotiate, and manage complex contract terms (NEC, FIDIC, and bespoke agreements)
- Negotiate terms and conditions with clients, customers, and suppliers
- Develop and maintain agreed Terms & Conditions for major customers
- Ensure strong commercial governance from bid through to project close-out
- Work closely with Project Managers to ensure adherence to contractual obligations
- Manage change control, variations, and compensation events
- Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities
- Maintain accurate records and audit trails to support claims and dispute resolution
- Lead the management and resolution of disputes, claims, and potential litigation, working with HQ Commercial and external legal counsel
- Interface with HQ Commercial to align strategies and protect the business position
- Support project teams to ensure correct insurance coverage is in place
- Assist Business Managers with contract review processes
- Ensure compliance with all internal policies, procedures, and safety standards
Your skills and experiences:
- Proven experience (5+ years) in a Commercial Manager, Quantity Surveying, or Legal role
- Strong financial and commercial acumen
- Excellent attention to detail with a proactive approach to risk management
- Strong negotiation, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Demonstrable experience working on large, complex engineering or infrastructure projects
- Ability to guide and support multi-disciplinary delivery teams
- Relevant HNC, degree, or equivalent qualification
- Eligibility to obtain SC Clearance
- Solid experience working with NEC and/or FIDIC contract frameworks
- Full UK driving licence
- Experience with contract terms and conditions JCT, NEC, FIDIC and similar contracts
