About The Hotel Assistant Manager Role
This is a fantastic step-up for a Reception Supervisor, Head Receptionist, or existing Assistant Manager ready for more responsibility and real influence. You’ll lead and develop a small reception team, carry out reception shifts and manage day-to-day operations, and will play a key part in shaping the guest experience at the hotel.
Full-time, 40 hrs per week. Shifts include earlies (7am–3pm), lates (2pm–10pm) and occasional day shifts (9am–5pm). Flexible rotas - written by you, in 3-week blocks. Weekend & evening availability required. We have one fixed-term, maternity cover contract available (at the Washington Guesthouse) and one permanent contract available (at the Clifton Hotel).
Who We’re Looking For in a Hotel Assistant Manager
- A confident and warm people-leader, able to inspire and develop your team
- Ideally, you’ll have some previous hotel reception experience, perhaps at a supervisory level
- A great communicator and problem solver with natural customer service instincts and a willingness to get stuck in on the desk
- Calm under pressure, organised, and ready to lead from the front
- Business-aware - you’ll keep the team focused on both service and financial results
What You’ll Do As Hotel Assistant Manager
- Working closely with Hotel Manager Judith, you’ll be involved in the following:
- You will be the first line manager for our receptionists and night porters within the hotel - you will support and develop them through effective 1-2-1 meetings and the monthly team presentation to ensure that they are performing to the best of their capability
- You will be in charge of the general administration for the reception - this involves communication with guests, maintaining the hotel’s ledger and ensuring admin errors are kept to a minimum
- You’ll handle guest queries and (occasional) complaints with warmth and professionalism
- You will plan the rota to make the best use of your team
- You’ll be leading the way with our customer service and will inspire your team to follow your example - ensuring that every guest has a great experience with us
- You’ll assume control of the hotel in the absence of the Hotel Manager
- You’ll be the driving force for all things revenue - ensuring your team are meeting their sales targets and achieving a great average room rate!
- You’ll ensure that every new starter is on-boarded in the most professional way and ensure that their training remains on track
- You’ll soon become very comfortable using a hotel PMS (we use Opera – but full training will be provided)
- When required, you’ll jump in to assist with other departments such as housekeeping
