The Vacancy
Do you believe every child and young person deserves the chance to thrive? Do you have spare time at evenings and weekends to help people in your community?
We’re looking for enthusiastic, compassionate people to join our Dumfries & Galloway Family Support Service as a Relief Family Support Worker . You’ll support children with disabilities, young people and families with practical, emotional and holistic help that makes a real difference.
We have opportunities in Stranraer & Newton Stewart
No two days are the same. One day you might help a young person build confidence through activities; the next, you could be shaping outcome plans that help them thrive. Every day, your work will matter.
Relief posts – flexible shifts that fit around other commitments
Evenings from 3:30pm until 8:30pm
Weekends- 3-to-5 hour shifts on Saturdays & Sundays

What you’ll do
- Build trusted relationships with children, young people and families
- Offer practical and emotional support tailored to individual needs
- Help young people grow in confidence, resilience and life skills
- Work with a warm, supportive team
- Create lasting, positive change for the people we support
What we’re looking for
- Caring, patient and a great listener
- Passionate about supporting children, young people and families
- Flexible, creative and ready to get stuck in
- Available for evenings and weekends
- Confident working independently and as part of a team
Please note you must be a driver with access to your own vehicle to be considered for this role.
Experience in family support, social care or community work is helpful, but empathy, curiosity and a genuine desire to help others grow are just as important.
