Position summary: We are seeking a qualified Electrician to support drone‑based electroluminescence (EL) inspection work across commercial and utility‑scale solar sites. The role involves isolating and energising PV strings, connecting biasing equipment, and ensuring all electrical tasks are completed safely and to industry standards. This is a field‑based position suited to someone who is technically skilled, safety‑focused, and comfortable working in outdoor and utility‑scale environments. The role will involve frequent travel within the UK and internationally.
What you’ll do:
- Prepare PV arrays for EL inspections by safely isolating circuits, configuring electrical test equipment, and supporting the drone pilot on‑site.
- Read schematics to select the required tools and evaluate the complexity of the inspection.
- Complete pre‑ and post‑inspection documentation, and troubleshoot electrical or communication issues in the field as needed.
- Ensure that all electrical works are compliant with BS 7671 and site‑specific requirements.
- Involve early morning starts, evening and night work, and travel with overnight stays.
- Receive full training on the method of electrical biasing for EL inspection.
- Train electrical technicians from our partners in other countries to perform the inspection.
What you’ll bring:
- A BS 7671 18th Edition qualification (or 17th edition with willingness to upgrade).
- A recognised Solar PV installation certificate.
- At least two years’ experience working with or fitting solar systems.
- Strong understanding of PV module layout, string configuration, and solar farm electrical architecture.
- Confident with wiring, earthing, DC systems, basic networking, and working at heights.
- Good communication skills and ability to work within a field team under time‑critical project schedules.
- Ability to work with Microsoft Office products and complete necessary documentation.
- Willingness to travel frequently.
- A full clean driving licence, clear background check, and strong initiative, communication, and time‑management skills are essential.
- Demonstrated ability to train and mentor electrical technicians.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with EL and thermography PV inspections.
