Financial Manager

Our company is a leading innovator in the field of advanced materials and imaging technologies, specialising in quantum dot semiconductors, SWIR imaging systems, drone payloads, and end to end inspection services used across solar panels inspection, precision agriculture, environmental monitoring, and smart infrastructure. We are a dynamic and growing SME with approximately 20 employees, seeking a qualified Accountant (ACCA, CIMA, or ACA) to manage key aspects of our finance operations. This is a hands-on position ideal for a proactive professional who enjoys both day-to-day accounting and strategic financial oversight. You will collaborate closely with the management team and external accountants to ensure the company’s financial health, accuracy, and compliance. There is opportunity for the right candidate to grow their career and expand the breadth of their experience to encompass all accounting functions as well as supporting on fundraising activities.

• Maintain accurate ledgers and journals, ensuring data integrity.
• Reconcile bank statements and control accounts.
• Process supplier invoices and ensure timely payments.
• Manage employee salary payments and coordinate with external payroll providers.
• Work with external accountants to prepare VAT returns and other compliance submissions.
• Raise and issue customer invoices; manage credit control to ensure timely collections.
• Prepare and submit Innovate UK grant quarterly reports.
• Prepare management accounts, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
• Monitor cash flow and advise management on efficiency improvements.
• Contributing to updates and further development of the company’s business model.
• Participating in fundraising efforts and supporting communication with investors.
• Participating in, and potentially leading, the company’s financial strategy.
• Participating in equity management.
• Ensure all statutory obligations and deadlines are met.

• Fully qualified Accountant (ACCA, ACA, or CIMA).
• Experience in preparing full statutory accounts for filing.
• Strong working knowledge of UK GAAP, accounting standards, and tax regulations.
• Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks.
• Experience with Odoo is an advantage.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Strong organisation and communication skills.
• Prior experience working within an SME/Start up environment preferred.
• Ability to reflect grant/loan repayments in financial statements.
• Experience with investors.
• Familiarity with Making Tax Digital (MTD) and cloud-based finance platforms.
• Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills.
• Experience implementing process improvements within finance operations.
