Quantum Scholars is expanding its team of Specialist SEND Tutors across Frome and the surrounding areas of Somerset in preparation for an increase in EOTAS (Education Otherwise Than at School) and Alternative Provision referrals from September 2026.
We are seeking compassionate, patient, and experienced tutors to provide personalised 1:1 support for children and young people who are unable to access mainstream education due to their individual needs or circumstances. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to make a lasting difference by helping learners rebuild confidence, develop key skills, and re-engage with education through tailored tuition.
About the Role
As a Specialist SEND Tutor, you will work with primary and secondary-aged pupils (5-16 years) who have been referred through Somerset Council's Alternative Provision arrangements. Every learner is unique, and sessions are carefully planned to meet their academic, emotional, and social needs. Many pupils require a flexible, nurturing approach that focuses on building trust and engagement before academic progress can be achieved.
The young people we support may have a range of additional needs, including:
- SEND
- Autism (ASC)
- ADHD
- SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs)
- Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
- Anxiety and emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA)
- Trauma or adverse childhood experiences
- Medical needs
- Behavioural challenges
Tuition is delivered on a 1:1 basis, typically within the student's home or an appropriate community setting. Assignments vary depending on each learner's needs and your experience. We aim to match tutors with pupils whose needs and key stages best suit their skills and expertise.
What We're Looking For
We're keen to hear from experienced SEND professionals, including:
- Qualified teachers
- Specialist SEND tutors
- SENCOs
- Teaching assistants with extensive SEND experience
- Alternative Provision practitioners
- Professionals with experience supporting children with additional needs on a 1:1 basis
You should have:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEND or complex additional needs.
- The ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet individual learning styles.
- A calm, patient, and nurturing approach.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- An Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is highly desirable due to travel between learners.
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is welcomed but is not essential for candidates with significant relevant experience.
What We Offer
Flexible working to fit around your availability. Competitive hourly rates, dependent on experience. Ongoing referrals throughout the academic year. Meaningful 1:1 work where you can see the impact of your support. Dedicated consultant support from our experienced team.
Please note that applicants must already have the right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, visa sponsorship is not available for these opportunities.
If you're passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs and want to help them overcome barriers to learning through personalised education, we'd love to hear from you.
