Quantum Scholars is preparing for a significant increase in EOTAS and Alternative Provision referrals across Somerset from September 2026 and is looking to recruit experienced Primary and Secondary SEND Subject Tutors. Working with learners referred through Somerset Council's Alternative Provision arrangements, we are seeking tutors who can deliver high-quality 1:1 tuition to young people who are currently unable to access mainstream education.
We are particularly keen to hear from tutors and qualified teachers with experience in:
- Primary (KS1 & KS2)
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
Many of the learners we support have needs relating to SEND, SEMH, autism, ADHD, anxiety, trauma, medical conditions, behavioural challenges, or EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance). The ability to adapt teaching to meet individual needs is therefore essential.
This opportunity may also suit classroom teachers looking to move away from mainstream education, supply teachers seeking greater flexibility, or experienced tutors wanting to make a genuine difference through personalised 1:1 teaching. Support is delivered on a 1:1 basis with both primary and secondary-aged pupils (up to 16 years old). We will always aim to match tutors with the subjects, key stages, and learners they feel most confident teaching.
Most tuition takes place face-to-face within a student's home or in a suitable community setting, with occasional online opportunities available where appropriate. With referrals expected to increase significantly from September, opportunities are likely to range from a few hours each week through to regular ongoing work that can be close to full-time, depending on your availability and subject specialism.
What We're Looking For
- Experience teaching or tutoring Primary, English, Maths and/or Science
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is welcomed but not essential for experienced tutors
- Experience supporting learners with SEND or additional needs is desirable
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
- Driving and access to a vehicle would be highly advantageous
What We Offer
- Flexible opportunities that fit around your availability
- Ongoing referrals throughout the academic year
- Meaningful 1:1 tuition with young people who need it most
- Competitive rates, dependent on experience
Please note that applicants must already have the right to work in the UK. Visa sponsorship is not available for these opportunities. If you're passionate about teaching and want to use your subject expertise to help young people re-engage with education, we'd love to hear from you.
