Learning Support Mentor - Bridgwater, Somerset (Alternative Provision & EOTAS)

Quantum Scholars is proud to be an approved provider on Somerset Council's Alternative Provision Framework, working closely with the local authority to support young people who are unable to access mainstream education.

  • We are currently looking for compassionate and experienced
  • Learning Support Mentors in

Bridgwater and the surrounding areas to provide 1:1 support for pupils requiring Alternative Provision or EOTAS (Education Otherwise Than at School).

This is a face-to-face role delivered within pupils' homes or community settings such as libraries and other suitable venues.

This is not an online position.

We are receiving consistent referrals from Somerset Council for support beginning in September and are looking to build a team of dedicated mentors who are passionate about making a genuine difference in the lives of young people.

As a Learning Support Mentor, your role will focus on helping pupils develop confidence, resilience, independence and essential life skills, while supporting them to engage positively with learning.

You will build trusting relationships and provide tailored support to meet each young person’s individual needs.

The Role May Involve

  • Providing one-to-one mentoring and support for pupils with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships that promote confidence, engagement and emotional wellbeing.
  • Supporting pupils to develop life skills, resilience, self-esteem and independence.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour, emotional regulation and social development.
  • Helping pupils re-engage with education through personalised support and activities.
  • Delivering sessions within pupils' homes or community venues such as libraries.
  • Monitoring progress and maintaining accurate records of mentoring sessions.
  • Liaising with parents, carers, schools, local authority professionals and other agencies where required.
  • Creating a safe, supportive and inclusive environment where pupils can thrive.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
  • Experience in mentoring, youth work, pastoral support, education, social care or a similar role.
  • A patient, adaptable and nurturing approach.
  • Confidence working independently within pupils' homes and community settings.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to motivate and engage young people who may have become disengaged from education.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • An Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Satisfactory professional references.
  • You must have the right to work in the UK.
