Quantum Scholars are working closely with a well-regarded secondary school in North Hampshire who are seeking a Second in English to join their team on a permanent basis from September 2026. About the Role

As Second in English, you will play a key role within the department, supporting the Head of English in leading and developing a dynamic team. You will also be responsible for delivering high-quality English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, while helping to shape and enhance the English curriculum.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach engaging and high-quality English lessons across KS3 and KS4
  • Support the Head of English in leading, developing, and motivating the department
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of a broad, ambitious, and forward-thinking English curriculum
  • Monitor student progress and support strategies to raise attainment
  • Provide guidance and support to colleagues within the department
  • Maintain high standards of teaching, learning, and classroom behaviour
  • Contribute to departmental planning, meetings, and whole-school initiatives
  • Support extracurricular activities such as reading groups, interventions, or enrichment programmes

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Strong experience teaching English at secondary level (KS3 & KS4 essential)
  • A strong track record of delivering good or outstanding teaching and learning
  • A passion for English and the ability to inspire and engage students
  • An interest in progressing into a leadership role within a department
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to contribute to wider school life
  • Right to work in the UK
