About The Role and Team
Quantum Motion is a fast-growing quantum computing scale-up based in London founded by internationally renowned researchers from UCL and Oxford University with over 40 years’ experience in developing qubits and quantum computing architectures. Functions of the Role
The Cloud Engineering Team builds cloud-based solutions, supports the cloud platform and helps to drive its adoption and expansion while also collaborating with other teams. Furthermore, the Cloud Engineering Team looks after the on-prem IT infrastructure.
The primary function of this position will be to take responsibility for the successful development, management and maintenance of software services to ensure that the production services perform effectively, while maintaining a high level of internal customer satisfaction. This includes developing, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing key functional areas, particularly internal applications and servers in a hybrid infrastructure. You will develop, troubleshoot and resolve software and process problems in a timely and effective fashion.

As a Senior Software Infrastructure Engineer, the position will suit someone who has a strong software background and problem-solving mindset, demonstrates critical-thinking and passion for automating tasks. Due to the nature of hybrid infrastructure, some tasks may require to be on site.
Experience - Essentials
- Translate complex business requirements into scalable, high-availability software architectures.
- Lead the evolution of a robust hybrid-cloud environment, optimizing the interplay between on-premises servers and cloud services for maximum performance and cost-efficiency.
- Drive a "manual-work-as-a-bug" culture by developing automation for application deployment, monitoring, and self-healing systems.
- Establish best practices for writing modular, performant, and maintainable code. Conduct rigorous peer reviews and mentor junior engineers to elevate the team's collective technical bar.
- Design and oversee comprehensive testing strategies to ensure high-level service reliability and seamless CI/CD pipelines.
- Act as a technical consultant to internal business units, translating technical constraints into business opportunities and ensuring a high-touch customer service experience.
Experience - Desirable
- Experience designing and versioning robust RESTful or GraphQL APIs that serve as the backbone for internal business applications.
- Expert knowledge of microservices vs. monolithic architectures, and when to utilize event-driven patterns.
- Advanced proficiency in Terraform, CDK, or CloudFormation to ensure infrastructure is version-controlled and reproducible.
- Proficiency in implementing full-stack observability using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK Stack.
