We are seeking a highly qualified Ion Trap Wafer Fabrication Manager in our Plymouth, MN location to manage part of our ion trap fabrication team. This team works with our foundry partners to oversee fabrication of our next generation of ion traps and related components, and to develop new and improved methods for producing higher performing and higher quality traps. The manager in this role will lead and mentor a group of physicists, engineers, and technicians. This position is primarily technical leadership and people management but includes some individual technical contribution. A successful candidate will have a broad and deep understanding of wafer fabrication in both IC and MEMS environments, proven technical planning and leadership skills, and experience building and managing a team of scientists and engineers.

Key Responsibilities:- Own and manage programmatic execution of ion trap fabrication, including gathering requirements and generating plans for development of ion traps and trap subsystem components.
- Track and report progress against the plan.
- Deliver completed hardware to commercial systems and experimental testbeds.
- Allocate and prioritize resources to meet milestones.
- Identify and manage risks and opportunities.
- Be accountable for all team results (technical performance, design reviews and handoffs, scope, schedule, cost) and tracking interdependencies with other groups.
- Coordinate with foundry partners, including generating statements of work, schedules, and milestones to meet near-term and long-term objectives.
- Coordinate with Project Managers and Technical Leaders in Quantinuum and at our foundries to monitor progress and escalate issues when needed.
- Report progress and needs to Quantinuum Leadership.
- Maintain clear procedures for Intellectual Property, compliance with government regulations, and Change Management.
- Hands-on support and management of critical technology development priorities in a rolling 5-year roadmap.
- Collaborate with ion trap designers, subsystem teams, and system architects to determine ion trap requirements and new technology insertion points.
- Perform and guide efforts in conceptualizing, simulating, and developing technologies for continued ion trap scaling.
- Ensure continuous process improvement to ensure robust, high-yield fabrication of ion traps.
- Meet project objectives by hiring and developing staff with the right skills for success.
- Perform technical goal setting, employee performance assessments, and compensation adjustments.
- Mentor, coach, and train direct-reporting engineers & scientists.
- Plan and nurture career development of direct-reporting engineers & scientists.
- Identify team-level staffing needs and fill key gaps.
- Establish strategic plans for the team, including technical scope β milestones, inchstones, and key decision points.
- Work with the broader Quantinuum team to develop strategies, and set expectations, for technology insertions in the traps.
- Recognize critical interdependencies with peer groups and adjacent disciplines.
- Develop test plans and identify key handoffs with technical partners.
- Identify and acquire key resources (people, equipment, space).
- Own the technology portfolio for your technical area; this includes IP development and capture, and procurement planning.
- Contribute to the development roadmap to ensure coherence between the 5-year plan and the long-term plan.
- Bachelor's Degree minimum.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the development and/or manufacturing of semiconductor devices such as ICs, MEMS or Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs).
- Minimum 3 years of experience serving as the leader of an advanced technical team.
- Due to contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, green card holder, or granted asylum/refugee status).
- Due to national security requirements, candidates must not be People's Republic of China or Russian nationals unless also U.S. citizens.
- Advanced degree - Masters or PhD - in Physics, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
- Direct people-management experience of a technical group engaged in semiconductor wafer fabrication (ICs, MEMS, photonics).
- Proven expertise in semiconductor device design and fabrication.
- At least 5 years of industry experience.
- Experience in complex task management (cost, schedule, risk/opportunity, etc.).
- A track record of high-technology development (engineering or physical science).
- A strong network of professional relationships.
- Strong organizational & leadership skills; excellent communication skills.
