I'm happy to announce an exciting and unique PhD opportunity — a 4‑year dual degree, with two years spent in Manchester and two years in Tokyo, jointly supervised by Mio Murao and myself (Philip Taranto).

About the programme

The dual award PhD programme — launched in May 2023 — complements the wider academic cooperation agreement between our two institutions. Postgraduate researchers are jointly selected and split their time between Manchester and Tokyo, benefiting from the expertise, facilities, and infrastructure of two globally renowned institutions. Students are awarded a degree from both institutions, based on a single research experience managed cooperatively.
