Opportunity: Due to our continued growth and the increasing demand from customers worldwide, we're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our R&D team and help shape the next generation of products that transform how organisations use data. You'll join the Research and Development department, working on our core Contextual Decision Intelligence offering: the Quantexa Platform. Our technology helps customers tackle complex challenges across fraud detection, financial crime, data management and more. We process, analyse and visualise vast amounts of data to uncover hidden relationships and detect anomalous or suspicious activity.
Our backend services are primarily written in Scala and deployed as microservices. We embrace functional programming principles and strongly-typed systems, building scalable, distributed solutions that handle large volumes of data. While Scala is our primary language, we welcome experienced software engineers from other backend backgrounds, particularly Java and other strongly-typed languages, who are interested in learning Scala and working on large-scale distributed systems. We leverage modern architectural patterns and technologies to build highly performant distributed systems, including event-driven architectures, event sourcing and CQRS, enabling our platform to remain scalable, resilient and flexible as it grows.
What do I need to have?
- A passion for designing, building and delivering high-quality, well-engineered software solutions to complex technical problems.
- The ability to take a big-picture approach, ensuring solutions work effectively within a wider system architecture.
- Strong commercial experience developing scalable backend applications in JVM languages, such as Scala, Java or similar.
- An interest in functional programming concepts and a willingness to learn and work with Scala if you have not used it extensively before.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative approach to software development.
Experience in the following would be beneficial but not essential:
- Experience with Big Data technologies such as Spark, Hadoop, Elasticsearch or similar platforms.
- Building distributed, scalable backend systems and microservice-based architectures.
- Experience with functional programming concepts and frameworks.
- Building production data processing pipelines, including ETL, streaming or analytics workloads.
- Working with event-driven architectures, event sourcing or CQRS patterns.
- Data transformation, cleansing, parsing and standardisation, with a focus on improving data quality and integrity.
- Experience with cloud platforms and modern DevOps tooling.
