Quant Capital is urgently looking for a Junior Systems Administrator to join our high profile client in their main development team. Our client is one of the most famous global quantitative hedge funds. The environment is relaxed and open, with time to think and make the right decisions.

This role is for techies who are motivated by the sharp end of technology and the possibility of making serious money doing something they are passionate about. The technologist will be responsible for a variety of user support and project work across a wide range of technology, including but not limited to:

  • Windows PCs and servers
  • Linux servers
  • Mobile devices
  • Advanced communications infrastructure

Key responsibilities include:

  • Development and maintenance of Linux and Windows servers and desktops, VMs and containers, databases, and a handful of Windows hosts.
  • Administration of network infrastructure including maintaining and troubleshooting routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Architecture and topology design with respect to our network and multi-petabyte storage solutions utilising ZFS, Ceph, NVMe, and other cutting-edge technologies.
  • Working on a diverse range of projects, including utilising Open Source technologies to build a High Availability Virtual Machine cluster and a bespoke Container creation tool.
  • Contributing to the development of configuration management and automation of routine tasks.
  • Proactively dealing with monitoring alerts and helping develop the monitoring platform.
  • Implementing and adhering to system and network security.
  • Identifying and driving best practice standards, with a focus on Open Source offerings where feasible.
  • Leveraging the best of the open source community as requirements evolve.
  • Evangelising and prototyping new technologies to help shape the architecture.

Systems Administrators ideally should:

  • Be very comfortable with Linux and Windows, preferably with experience of Ubuntu or other Debian-based distributions.
  • Have a demonstrated interest in both building technology and helping others use it effectively, along with a desire to improve processes and technology.
  • Have experience with phone, desk-side, and/or remote user support; knowledge of the Microsoft Windows enterprise environment and standard applications (such as Microsoft Office); and familiarity with a Linux or Solaris environment.
