The Fire & Compliance Engineer is responsible for ensuring manufactured products meet fire, smoke and acoustic performance requirements in accordance with British and European industry standards. The role supports the engineering design function through the review and interpretation of fire test evidence and by driving compliant, value-engineered design improvements. Acting as the primary technical liaison between internal teams and external test houses, the role ensures robust communication, correct application and ongoing compliance. This position requires a technically authoritative individual with strong engineering judgement and a proactive, solutions-focused approach. The role plays a key part in maintaining certification, product integrity and continuous improvement across the product portfolio.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Lead the interpretation and application of fire, smoke and acoustic performance requirements in accordance with British and European standards.
- Deliver fire engineering input, including fire strategy support and engineered fire-rated solutions at component, assembly and system level.
- Review, interpret and manage fire, smoke and acoustic test reports, classifications, assessments and certification evidence to ensure correct product application and compliance.
- Provide expert technical guidance to Engineering, Quality, Sales, Operations and Project teams on fire performance, regulatory compliance and limitations of use.
- Support Sales and tendering activities by responding to technical queries and providing compliant, value-engineered fire-rated solutions.
Key Skills:
- Proven experience within a fire testing environment or a manufacturer of fire-rated products (e.g. access panels, doors, or similar passive fire systems).
- Degree in Fire Engineering or a related engineering discipline, ideally CEng status.
- Relevant qualifications and certifications (e.g., FIRAS, BM TRADA, NVQ Level 2/3 in Passive Fire Protection).
- Strong working knowledge of British Standards (e.g. BS 476, 717), European (e.g. EN 1634) & Building Regulations (PAS 9980, Approved Document B) with exposure to smoke control and acoustic performance testing.
