We are seeking an experienced Legal Cashier / Accounts Assistant to work alongside the Accounts Practice Manager with the day-to-day running of the accounts department and to cover their role in their absence. This is a key role within the firm, ensuring that all financial operations are managed efficiently, accurately, and in full compliance with the Solicitors Accounts Rules and Law Society / QS Practice Management Standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the firm's accounts department and manage the accounts team.
  • Maintain Client and Office accounts, ensuring full compliance with SRA Accounts Rules.
  • Manage the purchase ledger, including bank reconciliations, payments, billing, and queries.
  • Produce month-end accounts and prepare detailed monthly management reports.
  • Prepare the year-end accounts, liaising with external accountants and auditors.
  • Produce the audit file and liaise with auditors regarding partnership accounts and the SRA Accountants Report.
  • Administer monthly payroll and pension arrangements.
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns.
  • Provide timely and accurate financial transaction information to the conveyancing team.
  • Manage renewals of Professional Indemnity Insurance and Practising Certificates.

About You

  • A minimum of 7 years in a similar role and proven experience as a Legal Cashier or Bookkeeper within a law firm.
  • Excellent knowledge of Solicitors Accounts Rules and legal accounting practices.
  • Strong attention to detail, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Confident using legal accounting software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a dedicated, professional team.
  • Highly organised, with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
