A welcoming and supportive primary school in Lewisham is looking to appoint a dedicated Year 5 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join their team from September. You will be supporting a Year 5 pupil with ADHD on a one-to-one basis, helping them remain engaged in learning, regulate their emotions, and make positive progress throughout the school day.
The pupil can use inappropriate language, including swearing, as this reflects their home environment rather than behaviour directed personally at staff. The school is looking for someone who understands this and is able to remain calm, professional, and consistent without taking the language personally. You will be expected to redirect the pupil back to learning, avoid power struggles, and provide clear boundaries while maintaining a positive and supportive approach. Building a strong relationship with the pupil will be key to your success in the role.
The ideal candidate will be patient, approachable, resilient, and able to act as a positive role model by encouraging the pupil, celebrating their achievements, and helping them feel safe, understood, and confident in school.
This inclusive primary school in Lewisham is committed to ensuring every child receives the support they need to reach their full potential. The school has a caring ethos, supportive leadership team, and experienced staff who work collaboratively to provide the best outcomes for pupils. You will be joining a welcoming team that values positive relationships and is dedicated to helping children thrive both academically and emotionally.
