The Position - Learning Mentor

A large and well-resourced primary school in Lewisham is seeking a dedicated Learning Mentor to join their team as soon as possible. You will be working closely with a child who requires consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day to help them engage with learning and develop their confidence and independence. The child can find it difficult to remain engaged in the classroom and may leave the learning environment when they become unsettled or overwhelmed. As the Learning Mentor, your role will be to build a strong and trusting relationship with the child, understand their individual needs and provide consistent support to help them access their learning. You will spend a significant amount of time working 1:1 with the child, helping them develop positive strategies for managing their emotions, improving their concentration and becoming more confident in their learning. You will encourage them to participate in classroom activities, develop their independence and gradually increase their ability to remain engaged within the classroom environment.Experience working with children with SEND, SEMH, additional learning needs or challenging behaviour would be highly advantageous. Candidates with experience as a Learning Mentor, Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant or in a similar pastoral or educational support role are encouraged to apply.
